Piedad de Yturbe, Marquise of Belvís de las Navas, matriarch of the golden era of Marbella and mother to Marbella Club founder Prince Alfonso zu Hohenlohe, settled on this beautiful coast during the 1940's. Ever since our family has been linked to this magical place at the southernmost tip of Europe. Today we continue live and venture in this part of the world and are proud to have revived an ancient olive estate to produce Marbella's first certified Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Our centuries old olive trees grow on terraces hewn from the dramatic mountains of Sierra de Las Nieves with sweeping views of the coast of Marbella to the Strait of Gibraltar. Our olive grove is managed with traditional non-irrigation methods and strict organic guidelines, which reaffirms the respect to the environment. The olive oil they produce is truly unique to the southern part of Andalucía since it includes wild strains of olive, the Acebuchina which blends beautifully with a surprising diversity of varieties that were cultivated in these hills centuries ago in Moorish times and which are unknown beyond the region.
Whilst recovering this ancient olive grove after decades of abandonment we stumbled across unidentified varieties which are currently being studied. Amongst these genotypes, one in particular performed surprisingly well especially for oil pressing. This fortunate discovery is granting us the privilege to enjoy a sublime one-of-a-kind blend. Our oil also combines Hojiblanca, Verdial Vélez Málaga, Zorzaleña, Manzanilla Aloreña, and wild olive strains known as Acebuchina into our coupage. These distinctive varieties have developed over time to suit perfectly to the particular microclimate of the terrain and their attributes are intensely perceived as our olives are harvested at their optimal time and pressed at low temperature. Our olives are pressed fresh every day of harvest, preserving their organoleptic and physiochemical properties intact. Of the latter the polyphenols stand out, which are contributed in great part by the Acebuchina, making this olive “juice” truly one of its kind.
Our distinctive varieties create a complex oil bursting with aromas of freshly cut green grass, artichoke, tomatoes, a hint of almond and a spicy note on the tongue. There is an intermediate intensity of spice and bitter, which resembles a balanced and stable oil.
Descendiente de los Hohenlohe, Sandro Gamazo ha heredado de sus antepasados su caracter aventurero y emprendedor.
